Biographical note
Rheinbach-based publisher Winrich C.-W. Clasen has been writing crime novels under the pseudonym “Paul Schaffrath” since 2011.
Born in 1955, studied Romance studies, Protestant theology and art history in Bonn; publications since 1981 in theology, art history and literary studies; most recently “Die letzte Zahl. Eine kulturgeschichtliche Reise von Zürich nach Riga” (together with Joachim Negel; 2023); current crime novel: “Der kleine Kölner” (2022).
I always wanted to write. I actually started doing this when I was at elementary school (that’s what elementary school was called back then) and wrote little stories (handwritten) about the local stuffed animals. During my studies I wrote science fiction stories (on a typewriter) and published them in the relevant magazines (including Perry Rhodan). Finally, I ventured into texts with a larger number of words (on the computer) and, after four years of preparatory work, published my first crime novel under my pseudonym Paul Schaffrath in 2015, Bonner Fenstersturz. At the same time, I have published academic titles in the fields of theology, philosophy, art history and literature under my real name Winrich C.-W. Clasen, most recently The last number. A cultural and historical journey from Zurich to Riga (2023).
